Berachain Halts Network After Exploit as White Hat Prepares Funds Return
Berachain, an EVM-compliant Layer-1 blockchain, faced a critical security breach on November 3, 2025, when its decentralized exchange platform BEX was exploited. The attack, linked to a vulnerability in Balancer V2 code, forced the network to halt operations and initiate an emergency hard fork.
The exploiter, identified as a known MEV bot operator, claims WHITE hat intentions and is negotiating with Berachain's team to return stolen funds once the chain resumes. Similar vulnerabilities affected multiple blockchains using Balancer V2 technology on the same day.
Berachain's swift response included securing liquidity pools on BEX and public communication via social media platform X. The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in DeFi infrastructure despite proactive measures by blockchain teams.
